OUR CORE VALUES
Holding to our doctrine as it faithfully represents God's Word for the world,
we at BSSI further emphasize core values such as:
- the inspiration of the Bible and its authority over every aspect of life,
- expository preaching and teaching,
- spiritual formation,
- active participation in the ministry of the local church, and
- cultural engagement.
OUR MISSION
The mission of BSSI is to assist local churches by nurturing students
for effective ministry by emphasizing sound biblical exposition and growth
in Christ-likeness which will encourage faithful men towards pastoral ministries.
OUR OBJECTIVES
BSSI desires to integrate academics with creative
practical applications of God's truth. It is our intention that
the graduate of Baptist Seminary of South India will:
- Know God through the Word and life experiences
- Seek to glorify God in every area of his/her life.
- Continually seek to improve his/her ability to communicate God's
truth to others.
- Have a high regard for the importance of the local church in
God's program.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
The Scriptures, interpreted correctly, provide the framework within which
an accurate understanding of the Creator and His creation may be established;
from which adequate options for man in relation to his context may
be argued; and against which all claims of reason and experience must
be tested. More than provide a framework for the evaluation of all
truth, the Scriptures provide man with a unique opportunity to know
his Creator and enjoy His friendship forever.
BSSI strives to interpret the Scriptures accurately and to encourage man to love God.
It is our philosophy to acknowledge the supreme authority of God's
Word for faith and practice, and to equip God's people with the skills
to comprehend and communicate it in an increasingly urban context.
It is our prayer that the Spirit of God will bear fruit through our
efforts for the Lord's everlasting glory.
OUR HISTORY
This program has its roots in a cooperative effort
by Northwest Baptist Seminary (NBS) of Tacoma, USA, and the field
council of Baptist Mid-Missions (IFCBMM). An extension summer program
(Northwest Baptist Seminary-India Extension) was begun in 1982, offering
an MABS degree (recently changed to a Master of Ministry degree)
over a period of three years. NBS provided the academic program,
while IFCBMM arranged for the facilities and students. Through the
years over 80 students have completed the MABS program. Hailing
from the different parts of the country, they are now better equipped
to minister the gospel of Christ in countless contexts.
It was decided that in 1998, the extension program
would better accomplish its purpose by becoming autonomous and by
offering year-round courses, keeping the urban Christian worker in
mind. BSSI now offers both the in-service Master Ministry
(M.Min) degree and the three- year Master of Divinity (M.Div) degree.
